WALLCOVERINGS

Modern wallcoverings are considered wall treatments that have a longer life span than paint finishes. They brighten up a dark room, create a cozy atmosphere, and add character to the walls by masking the wall’s weakest features. While choosing wallcoverings, it is really important to understand the amount of the traffic in the area. There are two type of commercial wallcoverings: Contract Wallcoverings and Specialty Wallcoverings .

General Categories of Wallcoverings have three types:

Type I: Light duty for areas with light to moderate traffic, with a typical weight of 19 ounces per linear yard.

Type II: Medium/heavy duty for use in high traffic areas, with a typical weight of 20-32 ounces per linear yard.

Type III: For extremely heavy traffic areas that require more wall protection, with a typical weight of 33 ounces per linear yard.

Contract Wallcoverings: used in especially high traffic areas such as hospitals, offices, retails, and apartments. They are designed and created to meet specific performances and physical charactersitics of any commercial or residential environment. The most popular type of contract wallcoverings are as:

Vinyl Coated Paper: A paper substrate that has been sprayed or coated with a decorative surface made of acrylic type vinyl or PVC. As it is durable and easy to clean, this type of wallcovering is best for use in kitchens and bathrooms.
Paper Backed and Solid Sheet Vinyl: This covering is constructed with a paper substrate laminated to a solid decorative surface. They are durable and classified as scrubbable and peelable.
Fabric Backed Vinyl: This vinyl has a fabric or artificial substrate, which is laminated to a solid vinyl decorative surface. There are two main types: solid vinyl and paper. Solid vinyl is ideal for spaces that require easy cleaning and durability, while paper can vary widely and is considered on a case-by-case basis.
Specialty Wallcoverings: offer a wide range which are specifically designed for decorative purposes and specific requirements, mostly recommended for low traffic areas. Below are a few options of specialty wallcoverings, produced by manufacturers for modern day use;
Acoustic wallcovering: This type of wallcovering is mostly applied in rooms with sound systems such as theaters or recording studios, for it is designed to absord sound energy.
Synthetic Textile Wallcoverings: Woven and non-woven looking wallcoverings developed to give the aesthetic appearance of a natural textile while adding an increased value in stain and abrasion resistance.
Writable/Dry Erase Wallcoverings: Laminated to woven or nonwoven backings, and commonly used with dry-erase markers as a writable/erasable wallcovering and/or projection surface.

Digital Printed Wallcoverings: This type of wallcoverings is not bound by an idea, color, or design. Any choive of design can be printed on different vinyl substrates such as Fine Linen, Silk, Bahama Sand, Smooth Vinyl, or Mylar. Each substrate can be used in all commercial and residential indoor spaces.
